"You only control the effort, not the results. Give it your 100% all the time. The more consistent your effort, the easier it is to get the results you want" - Ryan Holiday
This is applicable in most areas of life, as well of course marketing, media & PR for businesses.
There's a bit to unpack in the quote, so let's start.
'Control of the effort' - this is the time, energy and resources you put into doing anything
'Not the results' - in almost virtually all circumstances, you are not in direct control of the outcome
'The more consistent your effort' - being consistently good is better than being occasionally great
'Easier it is to get the results' - Nothing is guaranteed, but ticking all the boxes above will make it easier (not certain) to get the results you're aiming for.
It's what we try to do here at Flex PR for ourselves, along with all of our clients. So let's dig a little deeper.
What are the controllables when it comes to marketing, media & PR.
1. This.Right now. The fortnightly Friends of Flex update is a controllable. The effort, consistency and timeliness of each edition is within our control. As it should be for your own regular newsletter.
2. Your presence. In a highly competitive world, the loudest voice often wins but this is not always the case. Control your presence by connecting with local groups, partners and showing up in person and online regularly. See your invite below for a good example of this
3. Consistency. Doing things in a regular fashion shows that you are dependable and can stick to a schedule.
Think about how you can apply those principles across your business, act on it and you might just be surprised by the results you do get.
